Hurricanes Come Up Just Short in One-Point Battle with Davidson-Davie
LOUISBURG, N.C. – The Louisburg College men's basketball team erased a double-digit deficit and had a chance to win in the final seconds, but ultimately fell 90–89 to Davidson-Davie Community College on Saturday afternoon inside Roger G. Taylor Arena.
The Hurricanes trailed 47–39 at halftime after Davidson-Davie closed the opening half on a late run, but Louisburg responded with its most resilient stretch of the season in the second half, battling back to take multiple late leads before the game was decided in the final moments.
Freshman guard Isaiah Smith led the Hurricanes with 22 points, repeatedly attacking off the dribble and knocking down tough mid-range shots to keep Louisburg within striking distance. Smith scored 15 of his points before the break and continued to shoulder the offensive load as the Hurricanes mounted their comeback.
Freshman guard Jayde Braswell delivered a clutch second half, pouring in 21 points while going a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. Brazwell knocked down multiple three-pointers during Louisburg's rally and briefly gave the Hurricanes the lead late in the game.
Freshman wing Donovan Majette added 17 points, including several timely baskets down the stretch. Majette had a clean look at the buzzer to win the game, but the shot rimmed out as time expired.
Sophomore forward Nehemiah McDonald battled foul trouble throughout the afternoon but still contributed nine points, strong rebounding efforts, and key defensive stops during the comeback. Kristian Hodges added nine points and provided physical defense in the paint, while Robbie Knotts III chipped in five points and steady ball handling.
Louisburg outscored Davidson-Davie in the second half and showed significant growth defensively, forcing turnovers and converting them into transition opportunities. The Hurricanes briefly grabbed the lead inside the final minute before Davidson-Davie answered with the go-ahead basket, setting up the final possession.
Despite the loss, the Hurricanes displayed poise, toughness, and composure against a program that has long been one of Region 10's standards, nearly completing a comeback after trailing by as many as ten.
