Hurricanes Dominate on the Road in Region 10 Win at Johnston CC
SMITHFIELD, N.C. – The Louisburg College men's basketball team delivered one of its most complete performances of the season Saturday night, rolling past Johnston Community College 99–64 at the Wall Ennis Gymnasium in Region 10 action.
The Hurricanes set the tone early and never let up, using physical defense, dominant rebounding, and balanced scoring to build a commanding lead by halftime before blowing the game open in the second half.
Louisburg jumped out to an early advantage behind the play of Donovan Majette, Isaiah Smith, and Nehemiah McDonald, opening the game on a 5–0 run and steadily extending the margin. Majette sparked the offense with perimeter shooting and playmaking, while Smith attacked gaps and McDonald established himself inside.
By halftime, the Hurricanes had seized control with a 43–23 lead, fueled largely by second-chance points and defensive pressure that kept Johnston out of rhythm. Louisburg owned the glass in the opening half, limiting the Jaguars to one shot while generating multiple extra possessions.
The second half quickly turned into a showcase for the Hurricanes.
Louisburg opened the period on a 24–7 run, pushing the lead beyond 25 points within the first five minutes. Robbie Knox ignited the surge with an early three-pointer and a steal-and-score sequence, while McDonald took over in the paint, scoring through contact, cleaning the glass, and finishing lobs at the rim.
McDonald was the unquestioned force of the night, finishing with 25 points and 11 rebounds, asserting his dominance on both ends and repeatedly punishing Johnston inside. Majette continued to fill the stat sheet with 16 points, eight rebounds, and five assists, controlling the pace and creating opportunities for teammates.
Smith added 17 points and seven rebounds, knocking down timely threes and attacking in transition, while Knox contributed 12 points and strong defensive play on the wing. The Hurricanes also got meaningful bench production from Cameron Barnes, Torry Brown, Quinton Kosar, James Harris, and James Stanley, as every rotation group maintained energy and execution.
Louisburg's rebounding edge and defensive intensity were decisive throughout the night, forcing missed shots and turnovers that quickly turned into transition opportunities. The lead ballooned to as many as 40 points late in the game as Coach Brian Bagwell rotated in reserves and continued to apply pressure.
By the final horn, the Hurricanes had put together a wire-to-wire road victory, improving to 9–8 overall and picking up another important Region 10 win.
