McDonald Powers Hurricanes to Region 10 Win Over Pitt CC
LOUISBURG, N.C. – Behind a dominant performance from Nehemiah McDonald, the Louisburg College men's basketball team picked up a key Region 10 victory on Wednesday night, defeating Pitt Community College, 75–63, inside Roger G. Taylor Arena.
Louisburg set the tone early, racing out to a 20–5 lead in the first half as McDonald established himself in the paint and the Hurricanes' defense disrupted Pitt's rhythm. The Hurricanes carried a 41–28 advantage into halftime after holding Pitt to just two field goals over the opening 11 minutes of play.
McDonald was the focal point on both ends of the floor, finishing with 23 points and double-digit rebounds, repeatedly converting second-chance opportunities and drawing fouls inside. The sophomore forward controlled the glass throughout the night and provided the Hurricanes with a steady offensive presence whenever Pitt attempted to make a run.
The Hurricanes also received key contributions across the lineup.
-
Isaiah Smith added 12 points, attacking the basket and knocking down timely perimeter shots.
-
Kristian Hodges chipped in 13 points, doing much of his work around the rim and on the offensive glass.
-
Robbie Knotts III scored seven points and absorbed contact throughout the game, consistently getting to the free-throw line.
-
Donovan Majette finished with eight points, including a late transition dunk that helped seal the win.
-
Torry Brown provided a spark off the bench with a pair of first-half three-pointers.
Although Pitt trimmed the deficit to as few as 10 points in the second half, Louisburg answered each challenge with timely baskets, defensive stops, and strong rebounding. McDonald's interior play and the Hurricanes' ability to convert at the free-throw line down the stretch prevented Pitt from closing the gap further.
The Hurricanes followed up Wednesday's victory with a 104–93 road win over Guilford Technical Community College, continuing a strong stretch of play as conference action intensifies.
WIth these two wins, Louisburg improves to 11–8 overall and 7–6 in Region 10 play.
