Hurricanes Deliver Record-Breaking Performance at ASICS Last Chance Invitational

The Louisburg College track and field team turned in one of its strongest meets of the indoor season Saturday at the ASICS Last Chance Invitational, held at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The Hurricanes posted multiple personal records, broke school records, and qualified three athletes for the NJCAA National Championships.

Coach Warren Caldwell praised the team's effort and growth following the meet.

"This team is special," Caldwell said. "Something is brewing here in track and field at Louisburg College, and I'm excited about where we're headed."

Three Hurricanes secured national qualifying marks: Daniel Long, Asiyah Wall, and Derrick Harris.

Long set a new school record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.95 seconds, showcasing his elite acceleration. He also recorded a personal-best 21.7 in the 200 meters. Caldwell believes there is still more to come.

"Daniel is running well, but I don't think we've seen his best yet," Caldwell said. "I expect even faster performances moving forward."

On the women's side, Wall continued her dominant indoor campaign. She now owns the Louisburg school records in the 60m, 200m, and 400m. At the meet, she clocked 7.81 in the 60m, 25.02 in the 200m, and 56.67 in the 400m. Her 400m performance improved upon her previous school record and currently ranks among the top 16 nationally.

Harris, known primarily for his strength in the 800 meters, demonstrated his range with a significant personal record in the mile, further solidifying his value across multiple events for the Hurricanes.

The sprint group as a whole delivered several standout performances:

  • Aiden Bell posted a new indoor personal record of 22.6 in the 200 meters, improving on his previous best of 23.06.

  • Sean "Buff" Moore competed just days after recovering from illness and surpassed his previous 200m PR of 23.03 while also running 7.14 in the 60m.

  • Cass Bacon recorded times of 22.48 in the 200m and 7.19 in the 60m.

  • Emanuel Jones ran 22.74 in the 200m, continuing his steady development heading into outdoor season.

In distance competition, Alex Dempsey ran a strong 16:08 in the 5000 meters, bettering his previous time and continuing his consistent progression throughout the season.

Caldwell challenged his sprinters earlier in the week to trust the training process and focus solely on execution. The group responded with one of its most complete performances of the year.

With nationals approaching, Long, Wall, and Harris now prepare to compete on the national stage. The Hurricanes will look to carry the momentum from Winston-Salem into postseason competition as the indoor season reaches its final stretch.
