Hurricanes Earn Strong Marks at McAlpine Park

The Louisburg College men's cross country team competed Friday at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, racing against a highly competitive collegiate field.

Leading the way for the Hurricanes was Alex Dempsey, who turned in a breakout performance with a 57-second personal best, finishing in 26:13. He was closely followed by teammates Derrick Harris (26:48) and Christian Ortiz(27:24), as the trio worked together through much of the race in a strong pack.

Just behind, Brandon Miller fought hard to close the gap on the lead group, finishing with a time of 29:41Brennen Stillion wrapped up the lineup, competing in his first collegiate 8K. Stillion notched a personal best at the 5K split during the race and showed great enthusiasm as he crossed that mark.

As a team, Louisburg placed 17th out of 21 colleges, finishing ahead of three NCAA Division I and Division II programs. The performance highlighted both individual progress and the program's continued development against higher-level competiion.  

"The team ran well today," said Head Coach Marshall Leonard. "They had an intense workout on Tuesday, and I was amazed at how they attacked it. It looks like the hard work is paying off. Alex ran amazingly today, and he is setting himself up to have an incredible life after Louisburg."
