Strong Showing for Cross Country in Raleigh
The Louisburg College cross country team traveled to Raleigh on Friday to compete in the Adidas XC Challenge, an elite meet featuring some of the top NCAA programs in the nation, including UNC and NC State.
The Hurricanes delivered strong performances, with several athletes recording significant personal bests. Derrick Harris led the way with a time of 19:48 in the men's 6K, followed closely by Alex Dempsey and Christian Ortiz, both of whom also posted career-best marks. Brandon Miller (23:21) and Brennen Stillion (23:28) closed out the team's scoring effort, pushing each other through the final stretch.
"This was a great afternoon of competition and an excellent opportunity for our athletes to test themselves against some of the best runners in the country," said Head Coach Marshall Leonard. "Our men showed they are capable of competing at a high level, and it was encouraging to see multiple NCAA programs take notice of their performances."
On the women's side, freshman Shamena Henderson made her collegiate cross country debut, completing her first-ever 5K race. She displayed determination throughout the course while receiving full support from her teammates on the sidelines.
The Hurricanes will return to action on October 3 at the ECU Invitational.
