Hurricanes Capture NJCAA Regional Championship Title
The Louisburg College men's cross country team traveled to Shelby, North Carolina, to compete in the NJCAA Regional Championships — and the Hurricanes delivered an outstanding team performance, capturing the regional title and securing their spot at the NJCAA National Championships.
The Hurricanes were led by Derrick Harris, who dominated the field to win the individual championship with a time of 27:11. Harris was also named Male Regional Runner of the Year for the second consecutive season.
Finishing close behind, Alex Dempsey earned runner-up honors with a time of 27:33, while Christian Ortiz followed just steps behind in third place at 27:38. Brandon Miller continued the Hurricanes' strong showing, finishing seventh with a time of 29:26, and Harrison rounded out the scoring five with a personal best of 30:36. Jillian, returning from injury, completed his comeback race with a strong effort of 31:27.

With the victory, the Hurricanes advance to the NJCAA National Championships on November 8 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, where they aim to improve upon last season's 24th-place national finish.
"I am very proud of the guys," said Coach Marshall Leonard. "We went into the race with a clear strategy, and they executed it perfectly. The men have worked hard all season, and it's exciting to see them rewarded for their effort and commitment."
