Louisburg Men’s Cross Country Claims Region 10 Title; Harris and Leonard Earn Top Honors

The Louisburg College Men's Cross Country team captured the 2025 NJCAA Region 10 Championship, securing the program's first regional title under Head Coach Marshall Leonard, who was also named Region 10 Coach of the Year.

The Hurricanes controlled the race from start to finish, placing multiple runners in the top group and showcasing the balance and consistency that defined their season. The victory capped one of the strongest campaigns in recent program history.

Throughout the fall, Louisburg competed against top NCAA programs including UNC, Wake Forest, Augusta University, and Wingate, gaining valuable experience that prepared the team for postseason success. That preparation paid off at the Region 10 Championships, where the Hurricanes' composure and depth carried them to a decisive team win.

Leading the charge was sophomore Derrick Harris, who earned NJCAA Region 10 Runner of the Year honors following a standout season. Harris consistently set the pace for the Hurricanes, recording the third-fastest 8K time in school history with a 26:17 performance at the ECU Invitational.

At the regional meet, Harris executed a disciplined race strategy, maintaining position early before pulling away over the final 3K to seal the individual title. His performance capped a season marked by competitive excellence and leadership, setting a new standard for the Louisburg program.

Louisburg will now turn its attention to the NJCAA National Championships, where the Hurricanes will represent Region 10 on the national stage.
