Bri Tucker Region X Player of the Year
On Thursday the Louisburg College softball team picked up a host of individual awards.
Brianna Tucker was voted Region X player of the year. The Louisburg College shortstop is a Hunt High School graduate from Wilson, NC. This year she hit .529 with 74 hits, 20 doubles, 2 triples, 21 home runs, 47 RBI (as a lead off hitter), 70 runs scored, and 29 stolen bases.
"Bri may very well be the most dynamic athlete I've ever coached. She is a special talent and what she can do has been on full display for the entire country to witness all year long," said Coach Eric Lee. "She has excelled against the nation's elite, as much as she has in region play. Her parents Ernest and Teresa have a lot to be proud of and off the softball field."
The Hurricanes also had 4 other student-athletes who collected all-Region honors. Included on the first team with Brianna Tucker were Haleigh Joyner and Jordyn Scott.
At third base Joyner hit .413 for the year with 14 home runs, and 62 RBI. According to Coach Lee, "Haleigh has been the heart and soul of our program for three years. She continues to be a huge offensive presence in the middle of our order, as well as a lockdown defender at third base."
Catcher Jordyn Scott hit .371 with 8 HR and 35 RBI. She also caught 227 innings and threw out 10 of 17 baserunners. "Jordyn has taken whatever role has been thrown at her, and she has excelled," said Coach Lee. "To provide the consistency that she has in our line up--given some of the things that she has been asked to do--is almost unheard of."
Voted as second team all-region were DP/RHP Caroline White and infielder Abbie Yarboro.
White hit .453 with 9 home runs and 40 RBI. She also pitched 39.2 innings and boasted a 2.12 ERA. Yarboro hit .329 with 13 home runs, 47 RBI, and 50 runs scored.
"Caroline and Abbie have the two most important jobs in our lineup. That is to be good enough offensively to force people to pitch to Brianna Tucker and Haleigh Joyner," said Coach Lee. "Not only have they done it, they have done it masterfully. Each has accepted a redefined role, and I'm thankful for them."
With stellar performances from these five and on the heels of a third-straight Region X championship, the Hurricanes will head to Oxford, Alabama in pursuit of a National Championship.
