Tucker, Joyner All-Americans
Louisburg College softball earned individual honors in 2021 as Brianna Tucker and Haleigh Joyner were named All-Americans.
Brianna Tucker was voted NJCAA first team All-American. The freshman shortstop from Wilson, NC was also honored as Region X player of the year.
According to Coach Eric Lee, "Bri is the first real triple threat player for me at Louisburg College. She can truly hit for power, hit for average and steal bases."
Tucker hit .482 in the 2021 season with 81 hits including 21 doubles. She had 23 home runs, 49 RBI, and 82 runs scored. Tucker also collected 36 stolen bases.
Tucker also shined on the defense as she was named most outstanding defensive player at the NJCAA World Series. "Bri is the most dynamic athlete that I've coached at any level," said Coach Lee. "I was in awe seeing her range and ability to make throws for tough outs."
Coach Lee continued, "Bri doesn't want the credit. It is all about the team all the time, but the credit she does receive is well-deserved because she continually raises the bar for excellence."
Haleigh Joyner--a second-team All-America selection in 2019--was voted NJCAA third team All-American in 2021. The Sophomore third baseman from Garner, NC has previously been awarded first team All-Region and was voted to the all-tournament team at the NJCAA World Series.
Joyner hit .425 in 2021 with 71 hits including 19 doubles and 15 home runs. She had 67 RBI and 65 runs scored. Joyner also led the team with 27 walks.
"Haleigh had 37 home runs and 157 RBI at Louisburg and those are career numbers that are hard to argue with," said Coach Lee. "To say she has been an offensive staple for this program would be a very drastic understatement. Teams plan around how to not get beat by Haleigh Joyner and that is the ultimate respect. And as good as she was offensively, she is as good defensively. For three years we have had one bunt defense because she has the ability to cover it all."
Joyner has been the heart and soul of the program for three years. Coach Lee commented, "Haleigh has been loyal to me even when I made mistakes. She set the standard by which we measure Louisburg College softball players now, and it's hard for me to think about her not her not being here."
Joyner committed to Mars Hill University in the South Atlantic Conference. "I'm happy that she is going to play for Scott [Long]," said Coach Lee. "We have similar personalities and coaching styles so I think it is going to be a very easy transition for Haleigh."
