Hurricanes Sweep Richard Bland in Home Opener Behind Power Surge
LOUISBURG, NC — Louisburg College softball opened its home slate in style on April 8, sweeping a doubleheader over Richard Bland College with 12-4 and 12-8 victories.
The Hurricanes used explosive offense throughout the day, combining for 24 runs and eight home runs across the two games.
Game 1: Louisburg 12, Richard Bland 4 (5 innings)
Louisburg wasted no time setting the tone, scoring twice in the first inning before erupting for seven runs in the second to take firm control.
A two-run homer from Leigh Anna Carter got things rolling in the second, followed by an RBI double from Allie Boone and a grand slam from Bailey Radford that blew the game open at 9-0.
The Hurricanes continued to add on with a two-run triple from Boone in the third and a solo home run from Brittany Gingrich in the fourth.
Boone led the way with three RBIs, while Radford finished with four RBIs on her grand slam. Carter added two RBIs, and multiple Hurricanes contributed to an eight-hit performance.
In the circle, Reece Pickett went the distance, allowing four runs on three hits while striking out six.
Game 2: Louisburg 12, Richard Bland 8
Game two turned into a back-and-forth battle, but Louisburg delivered the decisive blow late to complete the sweep.
The Hurricanes answered early and often, highlighted by five home runs in the game. Reece Pickett, Reah Lee, Carter, Aubre Moore, and Boone each went deep as Louisburg built and rebuilt its lead.
After Richard Bland tied the game at 8-8 in the fifth inning, the Hurricanes responded immediately with a three-run homer from Moore and a solo shot from Boone to regain control.
Boone had a huge game at the plate, going 3-for-3 with four runs scored, while Pickett added two RBIs. Lee drove in three runs, and Moore finished with three RBIs as well.
Louisburg showed discipline at the plate, drawing eight walks and capitalizing on scoring opportunities throughout the game.
With the sweep, the Hurricanes continue to build momentum as they move deeper into conference play.
