Hurricanes Earn First Win, Set Sights on Sussex County

Louisburg, N.C. – The Louisburg College Hurricanes found their rhythm last weekend, earning a 38-10 victory over No. 3–ranked Hudson Valley Community College at Louisburg High School. The win moved the Hurricanes to 1-2 on the season and gave Head Coach Quinderra Spellman's squad momentum heading into their first road Region 19 matchup this Saturday at Sussex County Community College.

Spellman praised his team's resiliency and growth after battling through two tough opening weeks.

"We've been focused on us—getting better every day and correcting mistakes," Spellman said. "Against Hudson Valley, we ran the ball well, made plays in the passing game, and executed on defense. That's the formula we'll need every week."

Hurricanes by the Numbers

Quarterback Jon Bissonnette has emerged as the leader of the offense, passing for 475 yards and six touchdowns across three games. Fellow QB Jameson Prince has added another 150 yards and a score, giving Louisburg flexibility under center.

Freshman running back Jazear Griffin continues to provide a spark with 118 rushing yards and one touchdown (5.6 avg), while receivers Jabari Rone (144 yds, 2 TDs) and Jayden Hill (103 yds, 2 TDs) lead a balanced receiving corps.

Defensively, the Hurricanes have been opportunistic. Linebacker Tycorien Gist already has three interceptions and a pick-six, while Keaton Braddock has tallied 4.5 sacks to lead the pass rush.

Special teams have been steady behind kicker Jadon Moore, who is a perfect 6-for-6 on field goals this season.

Scouting the Skylanders

Sussex County CC (0-3) has faced a challenging slate to start the season, falling to Monroe College (28-6), Lackawanna College (45-21), and Georgia Military (84-12).

Despite their record, Spellman emphasized that his team cannot overlook Sussex.

"The biggest key for us is not beating ourselves," Spellman said. "We have to take care of the football, cut down penalties, and keep winning on special teams. More games are lost than won, and our job is to make sure we don't give the game away."

Game Day Information

The Hurricanes will look to build on last week's success as they continue their 2025 campaign.
