Louisburg Women’s Basketball Opens Season Strong at Battle on the Beach

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Louisburg College Women's Basketball team opened its 2025-26 season with an encouraging performance at the Battle on the Beach hosted by Florida State College at Jacksonville, earning a 1-1 weekend split to begin the year.

The Hurricanes started hot with a 66-57 win over Santa Fe College on Friday, showcasing balanced scoring, strong defense, and steady composure from start to finish. Sophomore forward Nyla Powell led the way with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Khouri White and Ziahmiya Adams each added 12 points. Shalawn Yates contributed seven points and three assists, and Quincie Toran added another spark off the bench with seven points.

Louisburg shot 45% from the field and outrebounded Santa Fe 38-29, controlling the tempo and finishing the game with poise to secure its first win of the season.

In Saturday's matchup, the Hurricanes battled a talented Daytona State squad but came up short, falling 87-57. Powell again paced Louisburg with 11 points and seven rebounds, while White and Adams each scored eight.

Louisburg (1-1) returns home next weekend to host the 401 Classic at Roger Taylor Arena, beginning Saturday, Nov. 8 at 2:00 p.m. against Howard Community College, followed by a Sunday matchup with Florida State College at Jacksonville.
