Hurricanes Stay Perfect at Home With Commanding Win Over Richard Bland
LOUISBURG, N.C. — The Louisburg College Women's Basketball team closed out its pre-Thanksgiving slate in emphatic fashion Wednesday night, overpowering Richard Bland College 78–37 inside Roger Taylor Arena to extend its winning streak to four straight games and improve to 5–1 overall. The Hurricanes have now won all four home games this season by double digits.
Louisburg set the tone immediately, opening the game on a 9–0 run and suffocating the Statesmen with relentless defensive pressure. The Hurricanes held Richard Bland to just eight first-quarter points, then followed with an even more dominant second period, outscoring the visitors 19–4 to take a 41–12 lead into halftime.
With the defense controlling the game—forcing turnovers, creating jump-ball situations, and erasing shots at the rim—Louisburg's offense was able to play freely and distribute the scoring load across the entire roster. Taliya Rowe led the way with 12 points, her second strong scoring performance in as many home games.
Jaya Hamilton, Ziahmiya Adams, and Quincie Toran each added nine points, with Adams again setting the early tone before the bench took over. Nyla Powell contributed eight, while Kayla Bush came off the bench to hit a pair of timely shots and finish with seven. In total, 12 different Hurricanes scored, a testament to the depth Head Coach Dennis Gaskins has developed through the early season.
Louisburg's reserves played nearly the entire second half, maintaining the defensive intensity and extending the lead. The combination of Bush, Toran, Briggs, Goode, Rowe, and Gulley kept Richard Bland uncomfortable, limiting the Statesmen's top scorer, Grace Riggs, to just four points, far below her season average.
The Hurricanes' up-tempo attack and ball movement continued to produce high-percentage looks, while their defense held Richard Bland under double-digit scoring in all four quarters.
With the win, Louisburg moves to 5–1 heading into the holiday break and continues to establish itself as one of the deepest, most balanced teams in Region 10.
