Hurricanes Stay Unbeaten at Home With 87–58 Win Over Brunswick
LOUISBURG, N.C. — The Louisburg College Women's Basketball team protected its home court once again, rolling past Brunswick Community College 87–58 on Tuesday night inside Roger Taylor Arena. The victory keeps the Hurricanes perfect at home (6–0) and lifts them to 6–1 overall, continuing one of the strongest starts in recent program history.
From the opening tip, Louisburg controlled the tempo. Nyla Powell set the tone early with eight straight points to spark a 9–1 run, dominating the interior with her strength on the boards and efficiency around the rim. She finished with 18 points, anchoring a Hurricanes frontcourt that repeatedly punished Brunswick in the paint.
Once Powell had established control inside, Khouri White blew the game open from the perimeter. The sophomore guard put on a shooting clinic, burying five three-pointers and totaling 20 points, including a scorching stretch in the second quarter that stretched the lead to double digits for good. White's shot-making — paired with her pace and decision-making — gave Louisburg complete command of the first half, which ended with the Hurricanes up 48–26.
Louisburg's depth was once again a difference-maker. Taliya Rowe came off the bench to deliver 15 points, including back-to-back threes in the first quarter that ignited a 26-point opening frame. Jaya Hamilton added 13 points, consistently attacking gaps in the defense and creating second-chance opportunities with her rebounding and activity around the rim.
On the defensive end, the Hurricanes forced turnovers, drew charges, and rotated with urgency — holding Brunswick to just 12 fourth-quarter points and never allowing the Dolphins to threaten the margin. Even when Brunswick pieced together an 8–0 run midway through the third, Louisburg responded immediately with stops and timely scoring to push the lead back into the high 20s.
The result was another complete home performance from a Hurricanes team that continues to show balance, depth, and the ability to dictate the style of play from start to finish.
