No. 25 Hurricanes Knock Off No. 13 Bryant & Stratton in Statement Home Win
LOUISBURG, N.C. — The No. 25-ranked Louisburg College Women's Basketball team delivered a defining performance Wednesday evening, rallying past No. 13 Bryant & Stratton College (VA) for a 69–60 victory inside Roger Taylor Arena in a nationally ranked showdown. The win strengthens Louisburg's position in Region 10 and reinforces why the Hurricanes are climbing the national conversation.
After trailing 38–33 at halftime, the Hurricanes flipped the game with defensive intensity, rebounding dominance, and timely execution down the stretch. Louisburg outscored Bryant & Stratton 36–22 in the second half, holding the Bobcats to just eight points in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore forward Nyla Powell was the difference. Powell powered the Hurricanes with 22 points and 18 rebounds, controlling the paint on both ends and repeatedly punishing Bryant & Stratton's guard-heavy lineup. She scored 14 of her points after halftime, including multiple putbacks and an and-one finish late that helped seal the win.
Khouri White set the tone early, pouring in 15 of her 18 points in the first half, including four three-pointers that kept Louisburg within striking distance when Bryant & Stratton surged ahead. White finished with 18 points and provided steady leadership throughout.
Louisburg's depth and toughness showed in the closing minutes. Shalawn Yates made critical defensive plays and knocked down two late free throws, while Jaya Hamilton added seven points, including a key three-point play during a fourth-quarter run. Taliya Rowe chipped in nine points, attacking the rim and providing energy off the bench, and Kyleigh Goode gave Louisburg strong interior minutes with five points and five rebounds.
Defensively, the Hurricanes tightened the screws after halftime. Louisburg forced eight Bryant & Stratton turnovers in the second half, clogged driving lanes, and consistently contested perimeter shots.
Under Head Coach Dennis Gaskins, Louisburg showed poise, physicality, and composure in winning time — traits that continue to separate the Hurricanes as conference play intensifies.
With the win, Louisburg improves to 11–2 overall, hands Bryant & Stratton its first Region 10 loss, and adds another résumé-building victory against a nationally ranked opponent.
