Hurricanes Shine on Sophomore Night with Five-Set Win Over Wake Tech

LOUISBURG, N.C. – The Louisburg College volleyball team closed out its home slate in style Wednesday night, earning a thrilling five-set victory over Wake Tech Community College (11–25, 25–21, 22–25, 25–14, 15–7) inside Roger Taylor Arena.

Before the match, the Hurricanes recognized their six sophomores — Isabella Thigpen, Wren Jacobs, Jazmin Riley, Ashia Teachy, Kathryn Austin, Emily Wells, and Jayleen Barco Cruz — for their contributions and leadership to the program. The celebration set the tone for one of Louisburg's most complete performances of the season.

Sophomore middle hitter Ashia Teachy delivered a dominant performance, leading the Hurricanes with 14 kills, seven total blocks, and three aces, while hitting an impressive .444 on 27 swings. Teachy was a force at the net throughout the night, providing key points and momentum in the fourth and fifth sets that helped Louisburg pull away.

Setter Jayleen Barco Cruz ran a balanced offense with 25 assists to go along with six kills, 12 digs, and three aces. Freshman Valery Bravo added 10 kills and 11 digs, and Naomi Chester contributed six kills and 15 digs. On the defensive end, Joella Estes anchored the back row with 19 digs, while Thigpen chipped in 17 digs and a pair of service aces.

After dropping the opening set, Louisburg responded with steady play and aggressive serving, winning the second set 25–21 to even the match. Wake Tech took a narrow third, but the Hurricanes surged in the fourth and fifth, hitting over .350 in both frames to seal the win.

The victory improves Louisburg's record to 10–12 overall and 3–8 in Region 10 play, as the Hurricanes continue to build momentum heading into the final match of the regular season when they travel to Lenoir CC on October 27th.
